The Cup Between Us

30 Jun 2026

Every culture has its own way of saying, "You are welcome here."

Sometimes it begins with bread. Sometimes with coffee. Sometimes with tea.

For us, it began with chai.

As a migrant, I came to appreciate that a shared cup can do something remarkable. It softens unfamiliarity, slows conversation, and creates space for people to meet one another without expectation or pretence.

Chai Thesis was born from that belief.

Drawing on research, history and craftsmanship, we create handcrafted blends that invite people to explore the journeys of ideas, traditions and cultures through something wonderfully ordinary: a cup shared together.

That same philosophy has also shaped the visual language of Chai Thesis through our collaboration with mosaic artist Sara Melville

Our collaboration brought the idea of a mosaic of cultures into a tangible form; one that reflects how different traditions, textures and stories can sit beside one another without losing their individuality. In her hands, mosaic becomes more than an art form; it becomes a way of seeing connection, memory and belonging.

This spirit came to life at our collaborative event, Community Chai and Mosaic, which Sara and I hosted together. Together we explored the idea that fragments need not remain fragments; that separate pieces, each with their own history and identity, can come together to form something whole without losing what makes them unique. That image has stayed with me.

It reminds me that belonging does not require uniformity, and that connection does not require sameness.

Through Chai Thesis, our aim is not simply to introduce people to chai. It is to rediscover the ancient practice of hospitality, where offering a drink is also an invitation to listen deeply, learn collectively, and connect communally. In a world where conversations can too easily become divided, we believe a shared cup remains one of the simplest and most enduring ways to begin one.

In a world that often feels hurried and divided, I hope Chai Thesis can offer something quietly different. Not simply another cup of tea but an invitation. Because every meaningful conversation has to begin somewhere.

Perhaps it begins with the cup between us!
